About the Artist
Anita Mosher Solich

“There is a reason we don't see the world in black and white. Color is vital to our daily lives. I find I express things in color and shapes that I can not find words for any other way”
Blending modern insight with old world training, Anita enjoys painting a variety of subject matter. For Anita, contemporary western art is an interpretation of the moment, captured directly thru color with exuberant strokes across the canvas.
Earning a BSN in Nursing from the University of Kansas, Anita enjoyed work as an operating room nurse for 7 years before she returned to her first love; painting. Her knowledge of anatomy, physiology and what is "under the skin" grounds her foundation whether rendering the hide on a horse, feathers on a rooster or the clothes on a figure.
Post grad art instruction include 6 years of study with oil painters she great admires. Anita trained for three years in the Russian school of painting with Don Sahli who was the last protege of Sergei Bongart, who taught in the tradition of the Russian Impressionists. She also studied at the Art Student League of Denver with Jay Moore and Kim Mackey and spent time studying classical portraiture with LV Davis at the Boulder Academy of Fine Art. As a teen and young adult, Davis trained for 12 years with Clive Martindale who was John Singer Sargent’s assistant for the last 19 years of his life.
Originally from Kansas City, Anita first studied art at the Nelson-Atkins Museum when she was six years old. Anita's interest in art began early, watching her mother paint portraits and the figure. Anita has paintings in her personal art collection from her maternal grandmother, also an accomplished artist.
Galleries who have represented Anita's work span across the western United States including Scottsdale, Santa Fe, Napa, Kansas City, Jackson Hole, Vail and Denver, CO. She owned a studio-gallery for 16 years in Denver, CO ( 2002-2018) with 2 artist partners and reduced her outside gallery/show representation focusing primarily on her gallery during this time. Anita continues to paint many commissions and participate in select museum and gallery shows across the western United States.
Residing and drawing inspiration from her mountain home studio in Castle Rock, CO; her work has been featured in articles numerous times in Southwest Art magazine including “Artist to Watch” in 2001 and in American Art Collector, Western Art Collector, Art of the West and Vail Art Magazine.
She is a Founding Emeritus member of Plein Air Artists Colorado and a Signature Member of the National Oil and Acrylic Painter’s Society and the Outdoor Painters Society.
